In my opinion there is no age limit when it comes to playing dress-up. I love it so much that I actually have a large tickle trunk in my basement. It is full of costumes, wigs, and accessories that have been collected over the years. On more than one social gathering the trunk has been raided, resulting in my guests and I wearing some pretty funny outfits throughout the evening.
I was so excited when a friend of mine mentioned she wanted to have a small Halloween gathering. I immediately started thinking of the perfect costume to wear. Unfortunately, no ideas were jumping out at me and after a few friends mentioned they were also costume stumped I had an idea – what if we picked each others costumes. How fun to show up to a party not knowing what you will be dressed up as – a costume potluck party!
To prevent duplicate costumes I had each person pick a theme (animal, food, celebrity, etc.) from a hat. Everyone bought/made roomy costumes so sizes wouldn’t be an issue. Each person wrapped up their costume so there was no sneaking a peek at the options. Names were drawn, costumes were picked and one at a time they went into another room to get dressed, then back to the living room for the big reveal. This was so fun! We did end up with one costume double but they were penguins and you know what they say – two penguins are always better than one. Well that’s what I say anyways.
As the evening went on, costumes started getting switched around – I went from Richard Simmons to a Gladiator to Snow White to a Flapper. Our hostess with the mostess kept the drinks flowing all night and everyone had a great time!
I will definitely be having another Costume Potluck party one day!
